Size: Without stretching it, the cowl measures: 20”circumference x 9” high
       ( 50 cm circumference x 23 cm high)

This cowl will fit a child, but it is very easy to make larger sizes. Just start with more chains for a higher cowl and add more rows until the cowl fits well around your neck.

Gauge: 16 yoslst = 10 cm (4”)

Supplies used:

- 1 skein of Red Heart Soft (shown here in colorway Turquoise), yarn weight: 4 Medium. (I have used 110 g for the child size cowl.)

- 5.5 mm crochet hook (shown here my Furls Wooden Hook, Cocobolo)

- yarn needle

- scissors

Notes: The cowl is crocheted, but it looks like knitted.
It is worked sideways in rows, back and forth, then the sides are slip stitched together to form a tube.

Stitches, Terms (US) and Abbreviations used:

- ch: chain

- back bump of chainsClick here for my picture tutorial.

- sl st : slip stitch

- st: stitch

Special Stitches:

Yarn Over Slip Stitch (yoslst): Yarn over (yo) and insert the hook into 2nd chain from hook; yarn over and draw the yarn through the chain (You have now 3 loops on the hook). Having the 3 loops on hook, pull/slip the first loop on hook through the next 2 loops on hook to complete a Yarn Over Slip Stitch (yo-slst). Click here for my PICTURE TUTORIAL!

Yoslst-blo = yarn over slip stitch back loops only: work the stitch as described above, but inserting the hook only into the back loops of the stitches.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Chain 41.

Row 1: working into back bump of chains, yoslst in 2nd ch from hook and yoslst in each ch across, ch1, turn. (40sts)

Row 2: yoslst-blo in each st across, ch 1, turn. (40sts)

Repeat row 2 until piece measures 20" (50-51) cm in length without being stretched. Do not cut yarn.

Joining into tube: Fold the piece into half and hold Row 1 edge on last row edge. Chain 1 and slip stitch the edges together inserting the hook through the back loops of the stitches of both sides. Cut yarn. Fasten off.

Finishing:
With yarn needle, weave in all ends.

I hope you enjoy the pattern!
