SUPPLIES:
- Simply Soft Yarn - Dark Country Blue (approx. 100 g)  and Caron Simply Soft Yarn, Dark Sage   (small amount)
- 4.5 mm crochet hook
- tapestry needle to weave in the ends.

SIZE: men size, 60 cm circumference, approx. 21 cm length.
You can make smaller sizes working less rounds with increases for the crown of the hat, or using thinner yarn and smaller hook size.

GAUGE: 16 fpdc x 15 rounds = 10cm X 10 cm

STITCHES AND ABBREVIATIONS (US TERMS):
ch: chain
st: stitch
dc: double crochet
fpdc: front post double crochet
fpsc: front post single crochet
sl st blo: slip stitch back loops only

NOTES:

The hat it is worked in rounds top down.

Each round begins with ch2, that will be not counted as a stitch.

Work the first fpdc around BOTH the beginning ch2 and the first fpdc of previous round. This will make the seam less visible.

Each round ends with a sl st into the top of the first stitch of the round, not into the top of the ch2.

At the end of this post you can watch a full Video Tutorial for this hat pattern made by Clare of BobWilson123 with my permission.

INSTRUCTIONS:
(See also the CHART at the end of the post!)

Using color A start with a magic ring.

Round 1: Make 8 dc into magic ring, slst to top of the first dc. (8 sts)

Round 2: ch2, work 2 fpdc around each dc of the round, slst to top of first fpdc. (16 sts)

Round 3: ch2, *1 fpdc around next st, 1 dc into top of same st, 1 fpdc around next st*, repeat around from * to * ; slst to top of first fpdc. (24 sts)

Round 4: ch2, * 1 fpdc around next, (1 fpdc around next dc, 1 dc into top of same dc), 1 fpdc around next fpdc* , repeat around from * to *, slst to top of first fpdc (32 sts)

Round 5: ch2, *1 fpdc around each of next 2 fpdc, (1 fpdc around next dc, 1dc into top of same dc), 1 fpdc around next* , repeat around from * to *; slst to top of first fpdc. (40 sts)

Round 6: ch2, * 1 fpdc around each of next 3 fpdc, (1 fpdc round next dc, 1dc into top of same dc), 1 fpdc around next fpdc*, repeat around from * to *; slst to top of first fpdc. (48 sts)

Round 7: ch2, * 1 fpdc around each of next 4 fpdc, (1 fpdc round next dc, 1dc into top of same dc), 1 fpdc around next fpdc*, repeat around from * to *; slst to top of first fpdc. (56 sts)

Round 8: ch2, * 1 fpdc around each of next 5 fpdc, (1 fpdc round next dc, 1dc into top of same dc), 1 fpdc around next fpdc*, repeat around from * to *; slst to top of first fpdc. (64 sts)

Round 9: ch2, * 1 fpdc around each of next 6 fpdc, (1 fpdc round next dc, 1dc into top of same dc), 1 fpdc around next fpdc*, repeat around from * to *; slst to top of first fpdc. (72 sts)

Round 10: ch2, * 1 fpdc around each of next 7 fpdc, (1 fpdc round next dc, 1dc into top of same dc), 1 fpdc around next fpdc*, repeat around from * to *; slst to top of first fpdc. (80 sts)

Round 11: ch2, * 1 fpdc around each of next 8 fpdc, (1 fpdc round next dc, 1dc into top of same dc), 1 fpdc around next fpdc*, repeat around from * to *; slst to top of first fpdc. (88 sts)

From now on there will be no increase made anymore.
(It is a little difficult to count the rounds; a good tip from my pattern tester Lucy: "Add a stitch marker at the end of round 11, when you stop making increases; this way it will be easier to count the rounds of the sides").

Round 12: ch2, 1fpdc round each st around, slst to top of first fpdc. (88 sts)

Repeat round 12 until you reach the desired hat length, about 19 cm. I made 27 rounds. Cut yarn (if you make the band in a different color; if not, continue with same color).

The band (2cm)
Join color B.

Rounds 28-29: Using color B work the same as round 12.

Round 30: ch1, 1 fpsc around each st around, slst to top of first fpsc.

Round 31: ch1 tight, work loosely 1 slst blo around, inserting the hook into the back loops of the stitches from round 30 and back loops of the stitches from round 29. See the picture bellow.

Finish off invisibly. Weave in the lose ends.

INCREASE ROUNDS:

  1. Thanks for the pattern. The video was most helpful. Is there a way to keep the back seam straight?
