Star Stitch Dishcloth – Free Crochet Pattern with Tutorial

With this dishcloth pattern you'll  learn how to crochet  a star stitch variation pattern that uses 2 rows repeat: one row of star stitch and one row of hdc V-st.
It's an easy pattern, once you have learned how to work the star stitch.

The Star Stitch is a multiple of 2 + 1. Add 3 for the foundation chain.
For each star you will need 2 stitches.
Ex: The starting chain for this Dishcloth with 14 stars in the row will be: 14x 2 +1+3 = 32 chains
This makes it easy for you to customize for larger pieces like pillow covers, blankets etc.
Use one, 2 or as many colors as you wish. The pattern is written with 2 colors and the stripe pattern I used.

Finished Sized: 16 x 16.5 cm

Materials:
- worsted weight cotton  yarn in 1, or 2 or as many colors you wish. (approx. 50 g total)
- 4 mm crochet hook
- tapestry needle to sew in the ends
- scissors.

Row 2 (V-st row on wrong side of work)
(Note:  Before you start the second row, identify the ch 1 that closed each star stitch from row 1. You will work only in that ch 1 stitches. Do not work into the bars of the star stitches!)

ch 2, work 2 hdc into ch 1 on top of first star st and 2 hdc into ch 1 on top of each star st till end of row;
1 hdc with color change (see note below) into top of ch 3 at the end of the row. (You'll have 14 V-sts plus the ch 2 at the beginning of the row, plus 1 hdc at the end of the row.)

Note: The color change will be made at the end of the row; work the last hdc of the row till half , having 3 loops on hook, join color B and finish the hdc with color B. Turn.

Row 4- 16 : Repeat as rows 2- 3 with color change at the end of V- st rows.
You will have this color sequence for stripes: 1 blue stripe, 1 orange, 1 blue, double orange (in the middle of the washcloth), 1 blue, 1 orange, 1 blue.

Edging (optional):
ch 1, work sc stitches evenly placed along the sides of the dishcloth (than means 3 sc for each color stripe made of 2 rows) and 2 or 3 sc into corner sts (for rounded edges work 2 sc into corner st)
Cut yarn. Fasten off. Weave in the ends.
