Chrysanthemum Coaster – Pattern Review + Free Crochet Pattern Download Link

My little son graduated kindergarten 2 days ago! I can't believe how quickly the years have passed!

These flower crochet coasters were part of the appreciation gift I made for his kindergarten teachers. I really love how they turned out! I love the cheerful colors! I hope you will love them as much as I do!

I really hope that the kindergarten teachers liked their gift, because I have spent 2 hours for each coaster! :)
Yes, I thought it will work up much quicker, but I needed one hour for making one flower, plus one hour to work the edging around the petals and weaving in the ends!

Chrysanthemum Coaster – Free Crochet Pattern Review

The pattern I have used to make these coasters a Free Crochet Pattern by Bernat Design Studio on Yarnspirations site. Actually, the pattern is for a dishcloth, but using a smaller hook size as in the pattern indicated I have obtained nice, stiff coasters.
You can find the link to the free pattern download at the end of this post!

SIZE: The size of your dishcloth or coaster if you like, it might vary, depending of the yarn and hook size you will use. Unblocked, my flower coasters are having a diameter of approx. 6 inches (15 cm).

SUPPLIES:
The dishcloth pattern calls for a 5 mm crochet hook,
and Bernat Handicrafter Cotton Yarn in 2 colors.

For my crochet flower coasters I have used a smaller hook size as in the pattern indicated, a 3.5 mm hook and cotton yarn in 4 colors! I think it looks much prettier in my version with more colors.
You could use any other cotton yarn as well and adjust the hook size.

MY FAZIT:
I had much fun crocheting these coasters, well until weaving in the ends! :)
The pattern it's nice and simple, the only more challenging part is the final round, the edging around the petals. I didn't liked very much the look of the single crochet edging around the petals, so I replaced the sc with slip stitches, as seen in the picture below..

Before changing colors, I have finished the rounds with the invisible finish off  method.
I have joined new color  with a standing half double crochet  into ch space of a shell from previous round.

  5. I cannot get the link to work, either. And yes, I am clicking on the actual link. I even did a search for 'Chrysanthemum Coaster' at Yarnspirations with no luck.

    1. The link works just fine for me. And the actual pattern is for a dishcloth, not for a coaster, that's why you are not finding when searching for coaster on Yarnspiration.
