There's something so lovely about clothing a newborn baby in something that you have made with love and attention. Plus, little ones look extra adorable in anything woolly!

1 Sunshine and showers

These cute weather toys and fun little aeroplane make a great hanging decoration for a nursery. There are just a few easy decreases, so it is great for beginners looking to expand their stitchy horizons.

2 Beautiful booties

Inspired by the slouchy shape of sheepskin boots, this adorable duo by Ali Campbell can be crocheted up in an evening or two.

3 Cute as a button

These adorable little shoes by Sarah Hazell use the rather fetching ‘pineapple cluster’ stitch. This technique produces a lovely neat look that is less ‘puffy’ than popcorn or bobble stitches.

4 Bunny love

Lucinda Ganderton's cute crocheted hat and nappy cover set celebrate spring and feature a sweet carrot embellishment and pompom tail.

5 Rattle and roll

Rattles stimulate hand-eye co-ordination and are also a great way of entertaining baby. Christine Harvey’s smiling bunny rabbit is especially easy for teeny tiny hands to grip. If you’re new to crochet, this pattern is a great way to get started.

6 Perfect poncho

Ponchos look incredibly cute on babies and are also really easy to pop over little wriggling limbs. Jackie Carreira’s colourful cape uses six calming colours – have fun choosing your own colour combo.

7 Fly away

Lynne Rowe’s butterfly bib is the perfect gift for expecting parents. Worked in simple double crochet, it’s a great chance to practise your skills.
