Galaxy Baby Booties - Free Crochet Pattern (Newborn - 6 Months)

The Galaxy Baby Booties are featuring the star stitch and they were designed to match the Galaxy Beanie and  the Galaxy Baby Mittens.

GAUGE:: 5 complete stars= 5 cm

FINISHED SIZE: 10 cm length

SUPPLIES:
- yarn: Premier Yarns Cotton Fair Solids and Premier Yarns Cotton Fair Multi, yarn weight fine 2 (sport 5ply).

- 4 mm crochet hook

- yarn needle to sew in the ends

- scissors.

STITCHES AND ABBREVIATIONS (US TERMS):
ch: chain

sc: single crochet

hdc: half double crochet

dc: double crochet

st: stitch

blo: back loop only

yo: yarn over

beg: beginning

standing sc: standing single crochet

ch 1 sp: chain 1 space

Special stitches: the Star stitch
The Star Stitch worked in the round it's a multiple of 2, that means: for each star you will need 2 stitches.

How to work the star stitch:
a) First star stitch:
ch 3, insert hook into 2nd ch from hook, pull up a loop;
insert hook into 3rd ch from hook, pull up a loop;
insert hook into first st, pull up a loop;
insert hook into 2nd st, pull up a loop;
insert hook into 3rd st, pull up a loop;
having 6 loops on hook, yo and pull through all 6 loops on hook;
ch 1 to close the star stitch.

b) Making the second star stitch:
Insert hook into ch 1 on top of the start stitch just made, pull up a loop;
insert hook under the 2 vertical bars of last spike of the star just made, pull up a loop;
insert hook into same st where last loop of previous star was made, pull up a loop;
insert hook into next st, pull up a loop,
insert hook into next st, pull up a loop;
having 6 loops on hook, yo and pull through all 6 loops on hook; ch 1 to close the star stitch.

INSTRUCTIONS BOOTIES (make 2):

Work in rounds starting at the toe.

Both sizes:
Make a magic ring.

Round 1: ch1, 10 hdc into ring, join with sl st to top of first hdc (10 hdc total)

Round 2: ch 1 (does not count as a st), 2 sc in each st around, join with sl st to top of first sc (20 sc total)

Round 3: ch1, *1 sc in each of next 4 st, 2 sc in next st* repeat around from * to *.(24 sc total)

Round 4: ch3, work 12 star stitches, slst to top of first leg of first star (12 stars total)

Round 5: slst to ch1 sp on top of first star, ch 1, 2 hdc in same ch sp, 2 hdc into ch1sp of each star around; sl st to top of first hdc (24 hdc total)

Rounds 6-9: repeat as rounds 4-5.
Cut yarn, fasten off.

Start working in rows!
Hold the piece with the joining facing you.

Row 1: Join yarn with a sl st into the 8th hdc stitch to the right of the last join into round made, ch3, continue with the first star stitch, work 8 stars more, end with 1 hdc into same st as the last loops of the last star. Turn your work.
You should have 9 stars total and 5 unworked hdc at the middle front.

Row 2: ch 2, work 2 hdc into ch 1 on top of first star and 2 hdc into ch 1 of each star till end of row, end with 1 hdc into top of ch 3 of last star (19 hdc total)

Rows 3: ch3, work a row of 9 stars, end with 1 hdc into same st as the last loop of the last star.

Row 4: Heel decrease on the wrong side. (This row you’ll decrease 2 stitches.)
Ch2, work 2hdc in ch1sp of each next 3 stars, 1 hdc in ch1sp of next star, 2hdc in ch1sp of next star, 1 hdc in ch1sp of next star, work 2hdc in ch1sp of each next 3 stars, 1 hdc into top of ch3 of last star (17 hdc total)

Row 5: ch3 and work a row of 8 stars, end with 1 hdc into into same st as the last loops of the last star (8 stars total)

Joining the 2 sides at heel:

Turn slipper on the wrong side, ch1, join at heel the sides together, sl stitching through both top loops of each side.Cut yarn. Fasten off.

Turn slipper on the right side and start working around the foot opening:
Join yarn color B with standing sc at back heel, sc 28 evenly around opening, join with sl st to first st and continue directly with the ribbed cuff.


The Ribbed Cuff
will be worked in rows back and forth with sc blo. Ch (16)

Row 1: work in back loops of foundation chain, 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and 1 sc in each of next 14 ch, 1 sl st in each of next 2 sts along edge of leg, ch 1, turn. (15 sc total)

Row 2: sk the 2 sl st just made, work 1 sc blo in each of next 15 sts, ch1, turn.

Row 3: 1 sc blo in each st to edge of leg, sl st in next 2 sts along edge of leg.

Rows 4 - 28: repeat as rows 2-3.

Joining the cuff at the back: ch1, hold the 2 sides of the cuff together and sl st across through top loops of each side back to leg. Cut yarn fasten off. Weave in the end.
