Crochet buttons are fun and easy projects that you can make from scraps of yarn. 

The pattern for these cute crochet buttons is brought to you by our guest Emi Harrington, known as Hectanooga1 on Youtube.

MATERIALS:
Worsted weight yarn
4.5 mm crochet hook
Yarn needle

INSTRUCTIONS: All the buttons shown are constructed using the same instructions.

1.Chain 5.

2. Slip stitch to join and form a ring.

3. Carry the yarn end along the outside of the ring so it can be pulled to close the hole.
    Chain 1, make 8 single crochet in the ring.

4. Slip stitch to join. (For small buttons (blue and tan), Fasten off here. Go to * in step 7. 

5. Keep same color or change to a contrasting color: Chain 1, make 2 single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (Small buttons: fasten off, go to * in step 7.)

6. Keep same color or change to a contrasting color: Chain 1, single crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to join. (Medium buttons: fasten off, go to * in step 7.)

7. Repeat step 6, fasten off with a long yarn end. *Pull yarn end in the center to close the hole, weave back and forth into the finished work with a yarn needle.

8. Thread the yarn end from the last row worked into a yarn needle, and weave through the last row of stitches, passing through only one side of each stitch to eliminate bulk. 

9. Stuff the cavity with a cotton ball or yarn scraps. (For a rigid button, slide a bottle cap, a salad bottle circle, or several circles cut from a plastic lid. Or a button, this would be a great way to use odd colored buttons.) 

10. Pull to gather up and close the button, weave the yarn end into the finished work, keeping the remaining yarn end for sewing the button onto the project. 

The buttons shown in the main photo have varying numbers of rows, and strands of yarn. 

Solid blue small button: Fasten off after step 4, worked with one strand of worsted weight yarn. Proceed to* in step 7. 

Small tan button: Fasten off after step 4, worked with 2 strands of worsted weight yarn. Proceed to* in step 7. 

Pink two-tone button: Fasten off after step 5. Proceed to* in step 7. 

Beaded Tan button: Work with 2 strands of worsted weight yarn. Fasten off after step 5. Proceed to* in step 7. Sew beads in every 2 nd stitch around the button. 

Multicolor beads cream button: Worked with 2 strands of worsted weight yarn. Fasten off after step 6. Proceed to* in step 7. Sew beads around the edge, with a a cluster in the center.


Cream button with black stitching: Fasten off after step 6. Proceed to* in step 7. Add stitch details with yarn and a yarn needle.

Colorful buttons: Follow steps 1 - 10.
