Free Crochet Pattern: "Panda Lee" C2C Square - Wildlife Graphghan CAL Block 3

Welcome to Week 3 of the Wildlife Grapghghan Crochet-along!

This week we are crocheting a cute panda bear c2c square, that I called Panda Lee.

I'm not sure you can see in the picture - in real is much more visible - but I’ve tried giving panda’s face a bit of depth and dimension by using 2 shades of white - a pure white and a soft white.

Surely, the shading involves more color changes as only using one shade of white. If you would prefer using only one shade of white, that’s perfectly fine! I have written the pattern for both version: with shading and without shading. You can choose the version that suit you most.

For the background I have used a nice contrasting green, that could symbolize bamboo, panda’s favorite food. I really love how these colors go together! Sure you can choose a background color of your choice, as long as it makes enough contrast with panda’s face.

SUPPLIES:

NOTE: some colors of the Red Heart Super Saver yarn are thinner as other colors.
For example Spring Green and Soft White. This will cause some changes in the finished size of the square. Even if I have designed the square having 25 tiles x 25 tiles as the Lava Fox ( that measures 16 inches (40 cm)), some squares will end up a bit smaller.
After you will sew them together they will equal out.
That’s why I will reduce the overall size of the squares and make an avarage size of 14.5 inches/square.

GAUGE: 6 C2C tiles = 10 x 10 cm (4 inches x 4 inches)
(This gauge is calculated for thicker RHSS yarn.)

SIZE: this square is 25 tiles x 25 tiles and measures 14.5 inches X 14.5 inches (37 cm x 37 cm)

ABBREVIATIONS:
- RS: right side
- WS: wrong side

Color abbreviations:

  • g= green (Spring Green) - this is the background color - if you like, you can replace it with any contrasting color of your choice
  • bl= black
  • w= white
  • sw= soft white (only if you chose the version with shading!)
  • gh= grey heather

    1. Yes you do decrease on both sides. I had a hard time with this decrease but was fortunate to find a youtube video on how to decrease a triangle into a square.

    2. Hi, that because of the natural way of the c2c. I had to insert the hook into the black st below to create that join at left side of the mouth.

  4. I've never done a c2c before. It would be nice if the patterns would tell you what stitch to use. I know it says intermediate but I'll never get to intermediate without help. Thank you so much for your patterns. Iam going to try this. I'll let you know how it turns out.
