"Two Hearts that beat as One" C2C Square - Free Crochet Pattern + Graph (Wedding Blanket CAL!) + Video Tutorial

This C2C square design is my contribution to the Wedding Blanket CAL hosted by Marly Bird.

The Red Heart Creator Bloggers have partnered up to collectively create a blanket as a surprize wedding gift for Alisson, the leader from Red Heart Yarns.

*Disclaimer: This post includes affiliate links and at no additional cost to you, I might earn a small commission if you decide to purchase through these links. Thank you! The yarn was provided by Red Heart Yarns. Crochet Hook provided by Furls Crochet.

The blanket turned out amazing, as you can see bellow! You can use all the square patterns or the one(s) you love the most. You can find the links to all square patterns on the Wedding Blanket CAL page.

For the Wedding Blanket CAL, each of the 12” squares should be designed in Chic Sheep by Marly Bird yarn in one, two or all of the following colorways: Sued, Linen and VIP.

For some odd reason, the yarns that were sent to me by Red Heart Yarns got lost on their way to Germany were I live.
Luckily one of the Joy Creators, Nadia Fuad from Yarnutopia was so kind and offered me to crochet a square using my design. Thank you so much Nadia!

With my permission Nadia made also a Video Tutorial for the “Two Hearts that beat as one C2C Square” that you can see at the end of the pattern below.

While designing this square, I heard all the time in my mind, the legendary song “Endless Love” of Mariah Carey and Luther Vandross. You know for sure the part: “ Two hearts,...two hearts that beat as one….our life has just begun!..... And this is how the name of this crochet square pattern was born! :)

~ Pin it here! ~

This was my very first C2C design, created back in January 2019, but for blanket’s surprise sake, I had to wait until now to publish the pattern.

I got in love with the corner to corner crochet and the pixel art! Ever since I have created many cute animal C2C squares, as the ones featured in the Wildlife Graphghan CAL.

THE YARNS: I have first designed this square using other colors of Chic Sheep by Marly Bird yarn that I had in my stash, but I wanted to get an idea how it would look like in some similar colors required for Alisson’s wedding blanket, so I have used Red Heart Super Saver Yarn that I had on hand in colorway Aran and Red Heart Super Saver Ombre in colorway Deep Teal.

GAUGE:

  • In Chic Sheep yarn and a 5.5 mm hook
    each C2C Tile = approx. 1.5 cm (0.6 inches)
  • In Red Heart Super Saver and a 5.5 mm hook
    each C2C Tile = approx. 2 cm ( 0.8 inches)

FINISHED SIZE:
- using Chic Sheep yarn, your square should end up measuring approx.12”x12” (approx. 30.5 cm x 3.5 cm)
- using Red Heart Super Saver as shown here, the square measures approx. 16"x16” (36 cm x 36 cm).

The Border:

The border around the square is worked in joined rounds; do not turn your work. You can work the border either in both colors, or just in one color.

Round 1: Join B with a standing sc in any corner hdc st, ch 2, work 1 sc in same st, [ ch 2, *work 1 sc in between the next 2 block sts, ch 2, rep from * till next corner**, work (1 sc, 1 ch, 1 sc) in next corner hdc st ] x 4 times, but at 4th repeat (on 4th side) end at **. Cut yarn and join to first st at beg of round with the invisible join.

You will have 4 corners with (1sc, 1 ch, 1 sc) and 19 ch arches for each side.

Round 2: Join A into ch1 sp of a corner, ch 1, **work 3c into ch 1 space of first corner, work 2 sc in next ch2 arch, *work 3 sc in next ch2 arch, 2 sc in next ch arch, rep from * till next corner; repeat from ** around; cut yarn and fasten off invisibly. sl st to top of first sc. Cut yarn. Fasten off.

Weave in all end. Block your crochet square if you like. And you're done!

Video Tutorial by Nadia of Yarnutopia:

Thank you so much Nadia for such a great video tutorial! ♥

NOTE: I am making a bit different when changing colors as Nadia does; I use for each color section a separate bobbin/ small yarn ball and I work over the small yarn tales so I don't have to weave in so many ends. But sure, you can do however it suits you.

Make sure to visit Nadia's Blog Yarnutopia and follow her YouTube Channel!

  4. Hello Kinga!
    Thank you for your work!
A friend asked me to do a baby blanket for her new grand baby due in April with her name on the blanket. I have never done the graphs before. Could I pay you to do a graph for this? Crochetkim has a personalized baby blanket that has a separate name insert for the blanket. Are you familiar with this pattern? If I could see it done once, I think that I could do it myself after that but at this point it seems overwhelming to me! Thank you so much!
    Sincerely,
    Vickie

    1. Hi Vicky, I'm glad you enjoy my work! I'm sorry but I do not take custom orders. You could use the Stitch Fiddle site and try to make the graph by yourself. All the best! Kinga
