Ianis Baby Booties (0 - 6 Months) | Free Crochet Pattern

These adorable crochet baby booties are part of a cute crochet baby set that I have designed for my baby nephew, born one month ago.
The booties are worked from the cuff down and they are easy to crochet.
I hope you will love them as much as I do!

Baby Ianis Crochet Booties,Ugg-style crochet baby booties

With or without ties, your choice! The ties are helpful to keep the booties stay on.

Now if you wonder about the color differences of the booties in the photo collage above, here is why: my sister took the picture with the baby wearing the booties, using another camera and of course in another light as I did. :)

GAUGE:

17 sc sts and 20 rows worked with sc = 10 cm x 10 cm (approx. 4" × 4")
(worked with hook size 4 mm)

SIZE:

0-6 Months baby: 10 cm length (4 inch); 6cm wide

THE YARN:

1. For these booties I have used 25 g total of
King Cole Big Value Baby DK - Colour Pebble (221) as the main color. (You can substitute this yarn with a DK baby yarn of your choice that meets the gauge.)


Yarn weight:

dk, 3, light.

Fiber content:

100% Acrylic

Ball Weight

100g (3.5oz)

2. Very small amount from a ball of fluffy yarn, I have used Schachenmayr Baby Smiles Lenja Soft for embellishing the booties.

Yarn weight:

dk, 3, light.

Fiber content:

100% Polyester

Ball Weight

25g (0.88 oz)

OTHER SUPPLIES:

  • size 4 mm (U.S. G or 6) crochet hook
  • STITCHES AND ABBREVIATIONS (US TERMS):

    • ch: chain
    • st: stitch
    • slst: slip stitch
    • Sk: skip
    • yo: yarn over
    • blo: back loop only
    • sc: single crochet
    • fsc: chainless foundation single crochet See this Tutorial by Moogly!
    • sc blo: single crochet worked in back loops only
    • sc2tog= decrease single crochet the next 2 sts: insert hook into first st, pull up a loop, insert hook into next loop, pull up a loop; you have 3 loops on your hook; yo and pull through all 3loops on hook to complete a decrease. (From 2 sts you made 1 st.)
    • fpdc: front post double crochet
    • bpdc: back post double crochet
    • ch 1 sp: chain 1 space
    • beg: beginning
    • RS: right side
    • WS: wrong side
    • A: main color yarn
    • B: fluffy yarn

    NOTES:

    1. The starting ch1/ ch2 at the beginning of the rounds will not count as a stitch.
    2. Join into round by slip stitching to top of the first st at beg of the round, not into starting ch1/ch2.
    3. For seamless rounds when working the foot and sole part made with sc worked into back loops only, join into round this way: remove hook from the hook, insert hook from back to front into first st at beg of round, catch the loop you just removed from the hook and pull it through the st.
    4. Crochet Baby Ianis Booties

      INSTRUCTIONS BOOTIES:

      (Make two!)

      CUFF:

      Start with main color A and with hook size 4mm work 24 fsc, join with slst into ring.
      Start working in the round!

      Rounds 1-4: ch2, 1 fpdc in first st, 1 bpdc in next st, *1 fpdc in next st, 1 bpdc in next st*, repeat from *to* around, slst to top of first fpdc (24 sts)

      LEG:

      Below cuff work 3 additional rounds, as follow:

      Round 7: ch1, 1 sc in each st, join with slst to top of first sc. (24 sts)

      Round 8: ch1, work 1 sc in 1st st, ch1, sk next st, *1 sc in next st, ch1, sk next st*, repeat from *to* around, slst to top of 1st sc. (24 sts)

      Note: The ch 1 spaces will be used at the end to weave the ties through.

      Round 9: ch1, 1 sc in each sc and 1 sc in each ch1sp (24 sts)
      Cut yarn. Fasten off.

      INSTEP: (worked in rows)

      Count to the right from the joining seam and insert st marker into 10.th st to the right and a 2nd st marker into 16 th st to the right.

      Crocheting the cuff of the booties

      Row 1 (RS): Join A yarn with slst into the 16. st (the 2nd marked st to the right); ch1, work 1 sc in same st and 1 sc each of next 6 sts, leave the remaining 17 sts of leg unworked; ch1, turn (7 sts)

      Rows 2-5: 1 sc in each st of next 7 sts, ch 1, turn. (7sts)

      Row 6 (WS): sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts, sc2tog; ch 1, turn. (5 sts)

      Row 7 (RS): sc in each st. Cut yarn. Fasten off. (5 sts)

      This is how the piece should look:

      Finishing the instep of baby booties

      FOOT: worked in joined rounds

      Round 1 (RS): With center back facing, join A yarn with slst to 1st stitch to the right of joining seam.
      (This is the middle back stitch!!)

      Ch 1, work 1 sc in same st and 1 sc in each of next 8 sts along the leg, 1 sc in same st as the first sc from row 1 of instep (in marked st); turn to work along the side of the instep 6 sts evenly placed, 2 sc into corner st of instep, 1 sc in each of next 3 sts of the instep, 2 sc into next corner st of instep, turn to work along the other side of instep 6 sts evenly placed, 1 sc into last st of instep row 1 (in 2nd marked st), 1 sc in each of next 8 sts, join with slst to 1st st, ch 1, turn.
      (9+1+6+2+3+2+6+1+8= 38 sts)

      Round 2 (WS): 1 sc blo in each st across; join with slst to top of 1st sc, ch1, turn. ( 38 sts)

      Rounds 3-5 : 1sc blo in each st across; (38 sts)

      SOLE:

      Fold booties on the foot length, place 1 st marker into midd front st and 1 st marker at midd back (in first st of the round). See the picture below!
      You should have 18 sts between the 2 sts markers on both sides.

      From now on, you will carry the two stitch markers up from row to row, marking each time the middle stitches at front and at back.
      To shape the sole, all the next rows you will make decreases in front and behind the 2 marked stitches.

      Round 6 (RS): ch1, sc blo in 1st marked st, work scblo2tog, 1 scblo in each of next 14 sts, sc2togblo , 1 scblo into marked st middle front, sc2togblo, 1 scblo in each of next 14 sts, sc2togblo; join with slst to 1st st. (34 sts)
      You have decreased 4 sts!

      Round 7: (RS): ch1, sc blo in 1st (marked) st, work scblo2tog, 1 scblo in each of next 12 sts, scblo2tog, 1 scblo into marked st, scblo 2tog, 1 scblo in each of next 12 sts, scblo2tog; join with slst to 1st. st. (30 sts)
      You have decreased 4 sts!

      Round 8: (RS): ch1, sc blo in 1st (marked) st, work scblo2tog, 1 scblo in each of next 10 sts, scblo2tog, 1 scblo into marked st, scblo 2tog, 1 scblo in each of next 10 sts, scblo2tog; join with slst to 1st. st. (26 sts)
      You have decreased 4 sts!

      Round 9: (RS): ch1, sc blo in 1st (marked) st, work scblo2tog, 1 scblo in each of next 8 sts, scblo2tog, 1 scblo into marked st, scblo 2tog, 1 scblo in each of next 8 sts, scblo2tog; join with slst to 1st. st. (22 sts)
      You have decreased 4 sts!

      Cut yarn leaving a long tail that you will use for slip stitching the sole sides together. Fasten off.
      Turn bootie inside out and sew (or slip stitch) the 2 sides of the sole together.
      Sew in all ends. Turn the booties with the right side facing.

      EMBELLISHING with fluffy yarn

      Use hook size 4.5 mm!

      a) At cuff join yarn with slst at middle back on cuff edge.
      Ch 2, Work *1 fpsc around 1 fpdc, 1 bpsc around next bpdc*, repeat from *to * around. ( 24 sts). Cut yarn. Fasten off.

      b) Surface Crochet around instep and foot:
      Join fluffy yarn at base of instep, see green arrow in the picture below!
      Work surface crochet with fluffy yarn around the instep, around the leg, then around the base of the instep, as shown by the arrows from 1 to 4 in the picture below!

      TIES:

      Chain 80. Cut yarn. Fasten off.
      With the help of a safety pin weave the ties through the small holes around the ankle. Make a small knot at each end of the ties to secure.

      Sew 1 botton on the outer side of the cuff ribbing.
