STITCHES, TERMS AND ABBREVIATIONS:
(I'm using US TERMS in all my patterns!)- ch : chain
- sc: single crochet
- slst : slip stitch
PATTERN NOTES:
Every odd numbered row is worked from the wrong side and every even numbered row is worked from the right side. When working a right side row keep all yarn ends to the back, when working a wrong side row keep all yarn ends to the front of work.
An even numbered row is the same as the previous odd numbered row, but worked in reverse!
How to change colors:
you will always change color at the last sc of a color section, working the last sc till before last yarn over; having 2 loops on the hook, pick new color yarn and finish the sc with the new color.I have used bobbins, but also worked over the yarn strands when needed!
For example, when working the red motifs, I have carried the red yarn from row to row and worked over it, so I don't have long red strands in between the rows.
Colors:
white: Red Heart Super Saver - White
black: Red Heart Super Saver - Black
buff: Red Heart Super Saver - Buff
red: Red Heart Super Saver - Cherry Red
aran: Red Heart Super Saver - Aran
brown: Red Heart Super Saver - Cafe Latte
light brown: Red Heart Super Saver - Warm Brown / other light brown alternative

Cut yarn. Fasten off and weave in ends. Now turn the piece 90° so that the deer is upright facing you! To finish the front panel, you will continue with the flap, scroll down for the instructions below the Graph notes!
CHRISTMAS DEER PILLOW COVER GRAPH:
The graph can be downloaded in the link below and it's for personal use only! Please don't copy, paste or distribute this pattern. Thank you! :)
Download here the Christmas Deer Pillow Cover GRAPH!
GRAPH NOTES:
You will read the graph from bottom to top!To work one row from the graph, you will actually crochet 2 rows:
- One crochet row on the wrong side (WS) worked with sc sts, reading the row in the graph from right to left and for each pixel in the the row you will crochet 2 sc sts!
- Next crochet row on the right side (RS) worked with sc reading the same row in the graph, but in reverse, from left to right and or each pixel in the the row you will crochet 2 sc sts!!
The graphs has 29 pixels in a row (29 columns) and 32 pixel rows total; that means you will double the number of pixels and double the number of rows: you will have 58 sts in a row and 64 rows total!
Start with 59 chains and work the first row with sc in 2nd.ch from the hook!
Because the even rows will be on the right side of the work, your crochet piece will be a mirrored image of the graph!
The Flap with button band:
Row 1 (RS): Holding the front piece turned to 90°, with the deer facing upright, join Aran (main) color yarn with slst into top right corner and work 57 sc evenly spaced across the edge (see the note below!); turn (57 sts total)
Note: To work the flap, you will need to work sc sts into the ends of the rows!
You have 64 rows, but you will need to skip 7 row ends to get 57 stitches evenly spaced across!
To get them evenly spaced, starting with the 5th stitch/row end, place 1 st marker (or yarn pieces) every 9th row end, for a total of 7 stitch markers!
After the last stitch marker you will have 5 stitches left.
Into the 7 marked stitches you will not work sc, so that you will work a total of 57 sc across!!
Rows 2-11 : ch1, sc in each sc across; turn (57 sts).
Row 12 (WS): ch1, sc in each sc across, before finishing the last sc, change color to Red; ch1, turn and continue with red!
Row 13 (RS): With Red, ch1, sc in each sc across; turn (57 sts)
Row 14 (WS); Button row: ch1, (1 sc in each of next 12 sc, ch3, sk next 3 sc) x 3 times, 1 sc in each of the next 12 sc; turn.
You have made 3 buttonholes!
Row 15 (RS): ch1, (1 sc in each of next 12 sc, 3 sc into ch3sp) x 3 times, 1 sc in each of next 12 sc; turn. (57 sts)
Rows 16-17: ch1, 1 sc in each sc across. (57 sts)
Cut yarn. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Back Panel
To begin chain 59 and start the first row in the second chain from the hook. (58 sc total)
Single crochet a total of 64 rows to create the back panel.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Turn the piece 90°, so that the rows are on the vertical.
Attaching Panels Together
Place the 2 pieces with the RS facing each other and the bottom corners on top of each other. Pin down (if needed) and sew the 2 pieces together with the Mattress Stitch around the 3 outer edges: around the left side of pillow, around the bottom, and up the other side! Do not sew over the top openning!
To avoid bulk, insert the needle though the back loops on the piece closer to you and the front loops of the coresponding sts of the piece farther from you. (Or you can slip stitch the pieces together!)
Cut yarn. Fasten off.
Once you are done, turn the pillow cover right side out.
For more stability, I have worked a row of slip stitches around the pillow cover opening across the back panel using main (aran) color and for estetic reasons I have worked a row of surface sc with aran color over the last red row of the flap! (It is an optional step!) Sew the sides of the flap down.Attaching Buttons:
With the back panel facing, fold the front panel down over the top of the back panel. Use stitch markers for botton placement! Using a sewing needle and thread, sew each button in place.
